Renewable Energy

1.       Name of Research Group
Renewable Energy Research Group
2.       Introduction of Research Group: This research group aims to determine benefits of a solar energy solution, for off-grid areas, which is designed to assist women in accomplishing their household duties. This solution would include a cooking plate, as well, to use solar energy for cooking. The expected or resulting solution would be deployed in selected off-grid areas of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KPK) and data of primary and secondary nature would be gathered to measure usefulness of such a solution. As part of this solution, a battery charger (MPPT based) would also be developed which would aim to maximize battery life in such a way that it could be used in on-grid areas as well as a solar panel based aid for inverter based home solutions.

In the end, effectiveness of such arrangements for women empowerment would be established. An added advantage of solar energy based solutions for off-grid households is reduction in spending on use of fuels for cooking such as kerosene oil, wood for burning etc.

As part of this exercise, a study would be conducted to reflect on how much Pakistan can save in terms of kerosene oil imports and estimate reduction in carbon footprint through use of such solutions.
